For Osteopenia

OSTEOPENIA

What is Osteopenia?

We reach peak  bone mass around age 30.  Then, everyone, including men, start losing an average of 1% of bone mass a year.  When women go through menopause, they can lose as much as 5-6% of bone density a year before leveling off to an average loss of about 2.5% of bone a year.  Osteopenia is a T-score of -1 to -2.4 (as determined from a Bone Density test or DXA) and puts you at higher risk of developing Osteoporosis.

Osteopenia vs Osteoporosis

Osteopenia bone loss is not as severe as Osteoporosis.  This means someone with Osteopenia is at a greater risk of fracturing bones than someone with normal bone density, but is less likely to fracture a bone than someone with Osteoporosis.

I absolutely love coming to OsteoStrong. When I first started I had a very weak wrist. Now I can push myself up from the floor with the grandchildren with no pain. I love having strong wrists! I’m in my late 50’s and I do believe that posture and agility are part of the Fountain of Youth so I plan on coming to
OsteoStrong for a long time.

I’ve been coming to OsteoStrong for over five months. I was getting close to osteopenia which concerned me, so I decided to give OsteoStrong a try. My ankle is bone on bone—I don’t have any cartilage anymore, and I have arthritis. The only fix is an ankle replacement and I’m not ready to do that yet. Since coming to OsteoStrong, I no longer have to get shots in my ankles and knees and I’ve cut down on the amount of pain medication that I take. I was able to walk five miles in Boston one day while
on vacation and I didn’t experience any pain.

Debra

Olathe, Kansas
After losing bone density for 8 years, after 12 months with OsteoStrong I gained 5.3% in my spine and 4.7% in both hips. I’m stronger, my balance has improved, and am confident I will continue making progress this year.
